History:


Bagnan College is a non-government Grant in-aid College affiliated to the University of Calcutta (C.U). It was established in July 1958 and recognized by the UGC under Section 2(f) right from the beginning. The college campus is situated at Khalore villege, under Bagnan police station, in the Howrah district bordering the East Midnapure district (earlier Midnapure district). Bagnan College was founded by late Badal Chandra Maji with the aim of catering educational interest of public at large in this part of Howrah district.



Mission & Vision:


Our main intention and objective of is to create honest, diligent and hard-working citizens who would give priority to their country and nation over their personal benefits. Our aim is not only to make them conscious of the cultural heritage and tradition of our nation but also to make them aware of their surroundings and about their possible contributions to society. We would like them to become agents of social change and makers of a better future.



Affiliation:


College has been affiliated for the first time from the session 1958-59 by Calcutta University which is effective from the session 1960-61 with aids, assistance and grants from the Govt. of West Bengal and the University Grants Commission, New Delhi.



Accreditation:


The NAAC accreditation of B to the institution in 2005 has further strengthened the attempts towards academic excellence.



Facilities:


  • Library: Reading room for news paper, journals and reference books. Daily lending of text books. The library boasts of a collection of noted reference books.

  • Book Bank: Departmental Book Bank for Commerce, Political Science, Physics & Chemistry.

  • Canteen: Regular availability of subsidized tiffin and lunch for students. Weekly rotation of menus. Tea and Refreshments are available at subsidized rate.

  • Computer Lab (AC): Spread over 2 halls, comprising over 30 PCs - integrated with LAN, Internet connection and network printer. Single PC for every student in the class.

  • Playing Ground: Along with the college courtyard a separate play ground (under development) in the eastern boundary of the college ground are available for all outdoor games.

  • Student's Health program: Various preventive and awareness programs are routinely under taken by NSS in collaboration with local & reputed private partners. Student health home membership with concessional diagnostic & treatment cost available to the students.

  • Career Counseling & Skill development scheme: A finishing school type program is under taken both for outgoing & Ex-Students towards grooming them for personality development, Career selection & competitive skill development.

  • Scholarship and Awards: Various Scholarships for best performers are available under financial contribution from patrons of education. Such as

    1. Sri Badal Chandra Maji Commemorative Award - Given to the top marks holder of final exam in commerce & science streams.
    2. Smt. Amodini Paul Commemorative Award - Given to the top marks holder of final exam in Accountancy (Hons.).
    3. Sri Bolai Chandra Paul Commemorative Award - Given to the second top marks holder of final exam in Accountancy (Hons.).
    4. Sri Kartik Chandra Ghosh Commemorative Award - Given to the top ranker of final exam in Economics with Accountancy (Hons.).
    5. Sri Samar Darbar Award Given to the top ranker of final exam in Chemistry (Hons.) achieving first class.


Gymnasium: For students physical fitness they can avail the gym at routine or leisure hours.

Cold Water: There are cold water dispenser with a number of ISI certified water purifiers for students and the staff.

Separate Common Rooms allotted for boys and girls: Common rooms for boys and girls are equipped with indoor games accessories

LCD Projectors for each department: Advanced type of teaching materials are also available for each department.

The college has well equipped Labs for Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Computer Science & Information Technology.

Activities:

NSS Programmes: Plantation, Environment consciousness, health, immunization, Livelihood etc. The college through NSS took part in data sampling for ASER 2013-14 reports. The college bagged various prizes and awards through NSS wing.

Annual Games & Sports are routinely held. The college has khokho, kabadi, football, volleyball teams and participate in inter college tournaments. Sri U. Nag holds additional responsibility of sports officer.

Seminars on different current topics are organized and attended by eminent personalities from academia & professional field.

Annual social function organized by Student's Union.

Independence Day, Republic Day, Netaji's Birthday Etc. are observed and celebrated with due importance with active participation by the NSS.
